In some countries, it is possible to apply for free legal aid to cover the expenses for legal assistance in the country to which your child has been abducted or where your child is being wrongfully retained.
Your personal legal expenses insurance policy will also cover some of your legal expenses in this regard.
Personal insurance
If you have a personal household insurance policy (e.g. contents or basic), this will include legal expenses insurance in most cases as well.
Therefore, you should contact your insurance company to see which expenses your policy covers in connection with legal proceedings relating to child abduction abroad.
Free legal aid
Free legal aid means that the State provides financial assistance to secure the individual citizen's access to the Courts. The purpose of free legal aid is therefore to give individuals with a low income the same opportunity to conduct legal proceedings as individuals with a higher income.
The rules on free legal aid apply to custody proceedings conducted in Denmark. You can obtain further information on free legal aid from the Civil Affairs Agency (Civilstyrelsen) or your lawyer.
